iOS 8.3 NOW AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

To all iOS users, Apple has finally made the iOS 8.3 available to the public. The new update which features a few notable improvements such as added languages for Siri, the ability to make a call directly on speaker with Siri, a more racially diversed emoji keyboard (which is also now has limitless scrolling), the ability to filter out messages from unknown senders and improved keyboard design during search type.

Other fixes as stated in the 'Learn More' section include improved performance for:

  • app launch
  • app responsiveness
  • Messages
  • Wi-Fi
  • Control Centre
  • Safari Tabs
  • Third-party keyboards
  • Keyboard Shortcuts
  • Simplified Chinese keyboard
  • Orientation and fixation fixes
  • Family Sharing fixes
  • CarPlay
  • Enterprise fixes
  • Accessibility fixes

For my iPhone 5S, the download was small requiring around 280~ish MBs. But I am not sure for other Apple Devices and from other iOS versions (mine was from the 8.2) You can update through Over-the-Air by going to Setting -> General -> Software Update. Just make sure that you are connected to a stable connection and Wi-fi if you don't want to be eating through your monthly data.

If you're out of space on your iOS device, you also have the option of updating through iTunes by connecting your iOS device to a computer.

So far I am not sure of the performance of the new iOS as I haven't spend sufficient time reviewing it. If there are any big problems, I would put it out here. (y)

*Not sure if device such as 4S would have better performance with this as iOS 8 is known to be slower than iOS 7 on it. Will be testing it out on my brother's 4S as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Prices for the 64GB and 128GB are not known/released at the moment.

A brief recap on the specifications of both S6 and S6 Edge:

So far all three big telcos in Malaysia, Maxis, Celcom and Digi have started their pre-orders yesterday (Celcom a day earlier) and if you want to be one of the first one to get a hold on to one (the earliest is by 17 April as Samsung stated) you should book yours now as Samsung also predicted that this flagship would most probably be out of stock by that time.

For Maxis, they are currently offering the S6 at only their highest plan, which is the MaxisOne (No options for One Lite and One Start yet). Which means the lowest monthly commitment you’ll have to pay is RM128 for 2 years. And what you get for it is 2GB of mobile data, limitless talktime to all networks and limitless SMS as well. The S6 would then be offered at a discounted price of RM1,659 and on top of that you’ll have to pay an advance payment of RM512.

Surprisingly Maxis offered the S6 Edge at an even higher plan, the Maxis One Plan + an extra 1 GB of internet that brings the total monthly commitment to RM158 for two years. The device would be sold at RM1,999 with advance payment of RM512 required.

The first 1000 customers would receive a free wireless charging pad and a screen protector worth RM282.

For Celcom, prices for the S6 starts from RM1,088 but you’ll have to fork out RM235 a month for two years. In this plan (the First ELITE), you’ll get 3GB of mobile data + 3GB of Celcom Wifi, 200 mins of call and 200 SMS. Yes this all seems quite low for the monthly fees but what’s special about Celcom’s new First plans is that they have what is called Internet OR Call&SMS optimiser which would give you extra Calls&SMS or Mobile Data depending on your usage (which one you finish first in the month). So for the First Elite, you’ll get an Internet Optimiser of 2GB+2GB Wifi or Call&SMS Optimiser of 300 mins + 300SMS. Advance payment for this is RM1,000 that would be rebated for 10 months.
Another cheaper monthly option is the FIRST plan that offers 2GB+2GB Wifi of Internet, 100 mins +100 SMS. The Optimiser options being 2GB+2GB Wifi or 150 mins + 150SMS. Advance payment of RN250 is required (also rebated over the course of 10 months) and the device price is RM1,888.

*If you’re interested in getting the Blue Topaz colour for the S6, only Celcom is offering it.

Celcom offers the S6 Edge at the same plans First Elite (Device: RM 1,488) and First (Device: RM 2,288) with the offerings of the plan being similar to the S6.

As incentive, the first 600 customers would be given the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3V worth RM499 for free! Talk about a good deal.

For Digi, you’ll have three plan options for both devices. The Digi SmartPlan 78, SmartPlan 108 and SmartPlan 148 (the numbers in the name referring to the amount of monthly commitment fee you’ll have to pay). All these plans have the options of being High Data or High Voice.

In SmartPlan 78 (High Data) you’ll get 3GB, 200 mins and 200 sms while in High Voie you’ll get only 1GB but 800 mins and 800 sms. In SmartPlan 108, you’ll get 5GB, 300 mins and 300 sms in High Data while in High Voice you’ll get 1.5GB with UNLIMITED Calls&SMS. In SmartPlan 148, you’ll get 6GB, 400 mins and 400 sms  while in High Voice you’ll get 3GB with UNLIMITED CALLS&SMS.

For the S6, Digi offers the device at prices of RM1,769 (SP78), RM1,529 (SP108) and RM1,329 (SP148).

For the S6 Edge, Digi offers the device at prices of RM2,179 (SP78), RM1,939 (SP108) and RM1,739 (SP148).

If you’re not looking to get one with contract, there is the option of buying it from Senheng *or now even Samsung. Senheng offer monthly instalments at 0% for 36 months and on top of that they are adding another year of warranty. Pre-ordering with Samsung would require you to pay a deposit of RM300 through PayPal before having to self-collect the device at an outlet. Samsung would also offer the wireless charger similar to Digi.
